Choosing the Right Christmas Lights for Your Landscape

Believe it or not, Christmas is coming up and the holiday season will be here in no time! Decorating your house is a great family tradition and leaves lasting memories over the years. Even surrounding neighbors and your community can enjoy the spectacular lights that you choose to embellish your home or business with.

Do you remember being a little kid, bundling up to get in the car and drive to see the lights up and down each snowy street? There would always be that house or two that were the brightest on the block. Each year something new would be added or removed and replaced with something bigger and better. A tradition that became something you did each year, passing on to future generations, and keeping the memories alive throughout the years.

Timberline has many different ideas in which you can adorn indoor and outdoor spaces. From large to small trees, shrubs to rooflines, even to ornamental yard décor – we know how to make your home stick out amongst the rest!

Different types of lights Décor by Timberline uses

bulb types, LED lighting

LED C9 Bulbs

C9 bulbs are used for lining rooftops, entryways, and larger evergreen trees.

LED C7 Bulbs

These bulbs are used for deciduous trees or can be used for larger evergreen trees adding a retro glow.

5 mm Minis

These lights are used for bushes, shrubs, tree trunks, windows, and ornamental décor such as wreaths, garland and greenery.

What to decorate in your yard

Evergreen Trees (spruce/pine/fir trees)

These taller trees are usually seen from roadways and stand above rooflines seen from the streets. Using LED C9 lights will space the bulbs in a vertical route, lighting all the gaps, giving it a glow all the way around.

Deciduous Trees

Adding 5mm mini lights to tree trunks can really accentuate the base of the tree all the way up the trunk as well as highlight some of the main branches in the canopy of the tree. This gives a classy, magical look and can be seen from far away.

Bushes/shrubs

Decorating bushes and shrubs with 5mm mini lights illuminates the yard and creates a ground effect when lit up at night. Adding different colored lights to the bushes, creates a festive look and enhances the size of the bushes in wintertime.

ROOF LIGHTS

Adding roof lights to your house illuminates the roofline and blends the lights together making your display shine brighter. We suggest choosing LED C9 light bulbs which help space the lights evenly leaving a bright glow through those snowy evenings.

Windows

Decorating windows, especially on commercial buildings, is an elegant way to show the beauty of the building architecture. Archway windows are visible from the road and by adding 5mm minis, which offers a simple, yet elegant touch of brightness, that can be seen from afar.

Driveways/walkways

A great way to light up a pathway or driveway is by adding C9 lights on stakes in the ground. This can enrich the walkway of your home or business and lighten the entry to the front door.

Ornamental Décor - Garland, wreaths, bows, sprig bundles

There are other Christmas decorations you can choose from to add simple and fun final touches to the overall design. Wreaths are great focal points on the center of a house and garland adds greenery to front porches, balconies, and entryways. Bows add a bold, cheery look and are an easy way to enhance wreaths. Ornamental décor can be added as well to fill in some empty spots in the yard that may need some love such as a lit-up deer or snowman.

Animated Lights

Adding animated lights to your yard display adds more flash and cheer, bringing the lights alive. Another way to design and display an animated light show is by syncing Christmas music to the display while the lights move and change colors. This is a fun way to engage neighbors who slow down to check out your outdoor display and add Christmas cheer.

There are many ways to decorate your home or business for the holidays. Whether it’s lighting a community tree or being the Clark Griswold of the block, hanging Christmas lights serves as the foundation of childhood memories and it allows businesses and homeowners to get creative by adding some holiday spirit. Here at Timberline, we can do it all for you. From installing your lights to storing them for you year-round, there’s no hassle when it comes to decorating for the holidays.
